Technical Assistance with Seven Directions

Seven Directions provides free technical assistance (TA) to Indigenous-focused organizations working to address cverdose in their communities.

We center Indigenous values, knowledge, and ways of working in our relationships with TA partners, whom we support with overdose program planning & implementation, Indigenous evaluation design & data collection, community event planning & promotion, data dashboard creation, and more.

Supporting Tribal and Urban Indian Public Health Organizations

Seven Directions provides free technical assistance (TA) to Indigenous-focused organizations working to address public health issues in their communities. We support teams and individual staff from a wide range of organizations, including Tribal health programs, Urban Indian organizations, Tribal colleges, and more. While our partners’ projects address a variety of public health issues, our technical assistance efforts between 2019-2024 primarily focused on opioid overdose prevention.

Who is Seven Directions?

In 2016, leaders from tribes and public health experts gathered to discuss whether to create a public health institute for tribal and urban Indian communities. They stressed the importance of providing tailored technical assistance for teams working with these groups. This led to Seven Directions to take on technical assistance as a mandate, to assist the growing American Indian and Alaska Native public health workforce and improve their ability to tackle public health issues.

Since then, Seven Directions has supported over 80 tribal communities and urban Indian public health programs, providing technical assistance ranging from COVID-19 support to evaluation training. Our approach respects tribal sovereignty, recognizing the power tribes inherently have in order to govern public health within their territories. We also value Indigenous knowledge that existed long before the United States. We honor and respect the cultural diversity and wisdom that resides within each tribal community.
